Data Location Setup Window Overview

The Data Location Setup window allows the user to show the software where the company AAPs (data) should be stored or where the “Aap12Data” folder already exists.

This window is shown to the user:

  • When the software can’t find the current data location (Example: a user or IT staff member moved or renamed the “Aap12Data” folder),
  • Or when the user chooses the Tools button from the Companies window and then chooses Advanced Functions -> Choose Data Location.

Window Layout

Typical Location (option)

The Typical Location option is designed for users who would like the data location for The Complete AAP 12™ software to be on their local hard drive in a safe place.

If this option is chosen, the “Aap12Data” folder will be created in the user’s roaming folder. If the “Aap12Data” folder already exists in this location, the current data will not be overwritten and will remain completely safe.

New Custom Location (option)

The New Custom Location option is designed for users who would like to create a brand new data storage location for their company files on their network drive or a custom folder on their local drive.

This is a great option for a multi-user environment where multiple users would like to view and edit the same companies. In this case, this option should be used by the first user to set up the network data location. All other users will use the “Existing Location” option and should select the “Aap12Data” folder that the first user created using this option.

Click the “Browse” button underneath this option to browse for and select a folder where the “Aap12Data” folder will be created. Once selected, the full path (that will be created) will be displayed to the right of the “Browse” button.

In the example image above, the folder “F:\My Custom Folder\” was selected with the “Browse” button and the path shows that a new “Aap12Data” folder will be created there..

Existing Location (option)

The Existing Location option should be used if an “Aap12Data” folder has already been created.

Click the “Browse” button underneath this option to browse for and select the “Aap12Data” folder that already exists on your local PC or network drive. Once selected, the full path will be displayed to the right of the “Browse” button.

In the example image above, the folder “F:\My Custom Folder\Aap12Data\” was selected using the “Browse” button.
